PLANNING (LISTED BUILDINGS & CONSERVATION AREAS) ACT 1990 (AS AMENDED)
Notice is hereby given that the Council of the London Borough of Lambeth, in pursuance of powers under section 69 of the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990 (as amended), made the following designation of two new Conservation Areas, amended an existing Conservation Area and de-designated and transferred part of an existing Conservation Area within the London Borough of Lambeth on 7th December 1999: (i) The new Streatham High Road and Streatham Hill Conservation Area (CA No. 54). The new Conservation Area includes buildings fronting Streatham Hill (Nos. 39-47 and 113-117, and Nos. 46-178) and Streatham High Road (Nos. 1-243, 1-5 Bridge Parade, 1-9 Hopton Parade and No. 245). i.e. between Telford Avenue and Streatham URC (not including Nos. 49-111 (odds) Streatham Hill). Also included are: Telford Avenue Mansions in Telford Avenue; Wavertree Court and Corner Fielde in Wavertree Road; Streatham Hill Station; Streatleigh Parade, Dorchester Parade, Dorchester Court and Nos. 1-33 (odds) Leigham Court Road; Endsleigh Mansions and Manor Court in Leigham Avenue; Tudor Hall in Pinfold Road; No. 1 and Nos. 2-20 (evens) Sunnyhill Road; Nos. 2-10 (evens) and Nos. 1-27 (odds) Shrubbery Road; St. Leonard’s Church and Church Hall, St. Mary’s Convent in Tooting Bec Gardens; Nos. 1-11 (odds) Gleneldon Road; Nos. 1-21 (inc.) Gleneldon Mews; Nos. 2-20 (evens) and Nos. 1e-1g Gleneagle Road, Gleneagle Mews, Streatham Swimming Baths and Ice Rink and Streatham URC and Church Hall. (ii) Four extensions to the existing Gerrads Road Conservation Area (C.A. No. 12) which is renamed Streatham Park and Gerrads Road Conservation Area, to include: (i) Nos. 44-54 (evens) Abbottswood Road, (ii) Nos. 57 and 59 Mount Ephraim Lane, (iii) Nos. 1-9 (odds) Ockley Road and Nos. 20-36 (evens) and Nos. 35 and 37 Tooting Bec Gardens. Nos. 16-58 (evens) and Nos. 15-47 (odds) Prentis Road, (iv) all the properties fronting onto Riggindale Road, Thirlmere Road and Rydal Road, and Nos. 18-44 (evens) and Nos. 29-43 (odds) Ambleside Avenue, and on Mitcham Lane: Nos. 61-69 (odds), and Nos. 76 and 78. (iii) The new Oaklands Estate Conservation Area (CA 56) to include Nos. 1-113 Cubitt House and Nos. 1-54 Eastman House. (iv) The de-designation of part of Sunnyhill Road Conservation Area (CA15). Nos. 2a-20 Sunnyhill Road and No. 232, Streatham High Road (formerly known as the White Lion)—these properties are transferred into the new Streatham High Road and Streatham Hill Conservation Area (CA 54). The objective of designation is to preserve or enhance the character or appearance of areas of special architectural or historic interest, as distinct from individual buildings, to control developments in such areas and to stimulate and encourage measures to improve the environment. The primary effects of conservation area status are that the demolition of certain buildings is brought within conservation area control and consent must first be sought from the planning authority; that it becomes an offence to cut down, lop or carry out any other works to certain trees within the area without proper consent from the planning authority; and that planning applications for development which, in the opinion of the planning authority, would affect the character or appearance of the conservation area, must be advertised. A plan showing the areas subject to these designations is available for public inspection at the Town Planning Advice Centre—Acre House, 10 Acre Lane, Brixton, London SW2 5LL (opening hours 9.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m.)
