TRANSPORT AND WORKS ACT 1992
BITTON RAILWAY ORDER
Notice is hereby given that application is being made by the Bitton Railway Company
Limited (“the Company”) to the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and
the Regions for an Order under sections 1 and 5 of the Transport and Works Act 1992,
for purposes of which the following is a concise summary:
1. To authorise the Company to reconstruct and maintain a part of the former Bath
to Bristol railway (380 metres in length) commencing in South Gloucestershire, parish
of Bitton, at a point 30 metres north-west of the river Avon bridge, crossing the
river by the existing bridge and terminating in Bath and North East Somerset, parish
of Saltford, at a point 300 metres south-east of the river Avon bridge. The reconstructed
railway will be laid beside the Bath to Bristol Railway Path and the Order will authorise
the stopping-up and diversion of part of that path.
2. To incorporate, with or without modification, certain enactments; to make special
provision for the reconstruction, maintenance and operation of the said railway, including
power to operate that railway for the carriage of passengers and goods; and to provide
for the transfer by the Company of the said railway and of the railway in South Gloucestershire
authorised by the Bitton Light Railway Order 1991.
And notice is further given that:
(a) A waiver direction has been given by the Secretary of State in respect of certain
provisions of the Transport and Works (Applications and Objections Procedure) Rules
1992 and forms one of the documents submitted with the application.
(b) A copy of the application and of all plans and other documents submitted with
it may be inspected, free of charge, from 19th April until 31st May 2000, at the following
places and times:
Bitton Railway Station, Willsbridge, Bristol, between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. every day
(including Sunday), and
Saltford Public Library, 478 a Bath Road, Saltford, between 1.30 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Tuesday, 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on
Thursday, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Friday and 9.30 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday. (The library
is closed every Monday, Wednesday and Sunday and, owing to the Easter and May bank
holidays, will be closed on 21st to 26th April inclusive and on 1st May.)
(c) Any person may object to the making of the Order by giving notice in writing
not later than 31st May 2000, to the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport
and the Regions, Department of the Environment, Transport and Regions, c/o the TWA
Processing Unit, Zone 3/11, Great Minster House, 76 Marsham Street, London SW1P 4DR.
An objection will not be valid unless it (i) is received by the due date, (ii) is
made in writing, (iii) states the grounds of objection, and (iv) gives the objector’s
name and address.
