THE PLANT HEALTH (GREAT BRITAIN) ORDER 1993

NOTICE OF DEMARCATED ZONES FOR THE CONTROL OF RALSTONIA SOLANACEARUM (SMITH) YABUUCHI ET AL

The presence of Ralstonia solanacearum (Smith) Yabuuchi et al, the bacterium which causes potato brown rot, has been confirmed in samples taken pursuant to articles 2 and 5 of Directive 98/57/EC of 20th July 1998 on the control of potato brown rot. I, Brian Ellam, being an inspector authorised by the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food for the purposes of the Plant Health (Great Britain) Order 1993, as amended (“the Order”) give notice that I have demarcated each of the following zones for the purposes of article 23 a of the Order (article 23 a was inserted by the Plant Health (Amendment) (England) Order 1999 (S.I. 1999/2126): River Ivel, Bedfordshire, from its confluence with the Pix Brook to its confluence with the River Great Ouse; River Great Ouse, Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire, from Roxton Weir (grid Ref. TL 159 534) to Houghton Mill (grid Ref. TL 282 720); River Ise, Northamptonshire, from Wicksteed Park (grid Ref. SP 883 763) to its confluence with the River Nene; River Nene, Northamptonshire and Cambridgeshire, from its confluence with the River Ise to Lilford Bridge (grid Ref. TL 027 838); River Blackwater, Berkshire, entire length; River Loddon, Berkshire, from the B3349 road bridge between Spencer’s Wood and Swallowfield (grid Ref. SU 721 653) to the A327 road bridge between Shinfield and Arborfield (grid Ref. SU 743 678). With effect from 15th January 2001, the provisions of paragraph 11 of Schedule 13 a of the Order (also inserted by S.I. 1999/2126) shall apply as appropriate in the above demarcated zones for the purpose of controlling the spread of potato brown rot. The areas of surface water which have been designated as contaminated and to which the prohibition on irrigation and spraying of potato and tomato crops in the said paragraph 11 shall apply are the same as those demarcated above.
