THE PLANT HEALTH (GREAT BRITAIN) ORDER 1993
NOTICE OF DEMARCATED ZONES FOR THE CONTROL OF RALSTONIA SOLANACEARUM (SMITH) YABUUCHI ET AL
The presence of Ralstonia solanacearum (Smith) Yabuuchi et al, the bacterium which
causes potato brown rot, has been confirmed in samples of surface water taken pursuant
to Articles 2 and 5 of Directive 98/57/EC of 20 July 1998, on the control of potato
brown rot (“the Directive”).
I, Brian Ellam, being an Inspector authorised by the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries
and Food for the purposes of the Plant Health (Great Britain) Order 1993 (SI 1993/1320)
as amended (“the Order”), give notice that I have demarcated the following zones of
probable contamination for the purposes of article 23 A of the Order (article 23 A was inserted by the Plant Health (Amendment) (England) Order 1999 (SI 1999/2126)),
as described in Article 5(1)(c)(iii) of the Directive:
River Frome, Dorset | from East Stoke (Grid Ref SY 872 867) to its confluence with Poole Harbour; |
River Loddon, Berkshire | from the minor road bridge between Stratfield Saye and Stratfield Turgis (Grid Ref SU 692 611) to its confluence with the River Thames; |
Bedford and River Ivel Internal Drainage Board normal channel 113, from the River Ivel, Bedfordshire | from Sandy (Grid Ref TL 164 489) to Tempsford (Grid Ref TL 161 534). |
The demarcation of the River Loddon is a variation to the zone of demarcation in respect of this river previously published in notices dated 19 July 2000 and 18 December 2000 (Refs 2/2000 and 3/2000 respectively).
With effect from 31 March 2002, the provisions of paragraph 11 of Schedule 13 A of the Order (also inserted by SI 1999/2126) shall apply as appropriate in the above demarcated zones for the purpose of controlling the spread of potato brown rot.
The areas of surface water which have been designated as contaminated and to which the prohibition on irrigation and spraying of potato and tomato crops in paragraph 11 of Schedule 13 A shall apply are the same as those demarcated above.
