Notice is hereby given that Great Yarmouth Borough Council has applied to the Secretary of State for the Department for Transport under section 34 of the Coast Protection Act 1949, as amended by section 36 of the Merchant Shipping Act 1988, for consent for the method of constructing offshore reefs at Gorleston, Norfolk. Plans showing the position of the works may be inspected at the Town Hall, Great Yarmouth. Objections on navigational grounds in respect of the application should be made to Ian Boon, Engineering and Leisure Services, Great Yarmouth Borough Council, Town Hall, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk NR30 2QF. The Great Yarmouth Borough Council, acting in its capacity as coast protection authority, hereby gives notice under subsection (i) of section 5 of the Coast Protection Act 1949, that it proposes to carry out coast protection work, as described herein at Gorleston, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, between OS grid Refs TG 531 021 and TG 531 033. The work will consist of repairs to the existing seawall, beach recharge and the construction of nearshore rock armour reefs. The estimated cost of work is £4 million. Any person may, not later than 6 January 2003, serve a written notice of objection to the above proposal on the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs and the above-mentioned authority. Any such notice must contain a statement of the grounds of objection and must be sent by pre-paid post to Ian Boon, Engineering and Leisure Services, Great Yarmouth Borough Council, Town Hall, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk NR30 2QF.
