PRESTON DOCK RAILWAY ORDER
NOTICE OF APPLICATION FOR AN ORDER
Steamport Southport Limited, whose address to which all requests for further information and all notices or other documents required to be served upon the applicant is c/o Winckworth Sherwood, 35 Great Peter Street, Westminster, London SW1P 3LR, is applying to the First Secretary of State under section 6 of the Transport and Works Act 1992 for the above-mentioned Order under sections 1 and 5 of that Act. The draft Order makes provision for the lease or sale by Preston City Council to SSL of certain railways forming part of the Preston Dock railway system in the city of Preston, county of Lancashire. The first railway (“Railway No 1”) is 2,670 metres in length and commences to the west of Strand Road level crossing, then passes on land adjoining Strand Road, Port Way and Navigation Way, over Maritime Way (formerly Bullnose Road) level crossing, over the Swing Bridge level crossing (incorporated in the swing bridge over the entrance to Preston Dock) and Lockside Road level crossing and terminates to the east of the engine shed located to the south of Nelson Way and incorporates two spurs in the vicinity of Chain Caul Road leading to Williams Yard and to the railway works of SSL. The second railway (“Railway No 2”) is 220 metres in length and commences by a junction with Railway No 1 at a point to the west of the Lockside Road level crossing and terminates at a point adjacent to the southern boundary of Chain Caul Way west of its junction with Lockside Road. In addition the draft Order makes other provision as to the railways. Any objections to, or other representations about, the proposals in the application should be sent to the First Secretary of State, Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, c/o the TWA Processing Unit, Zone 3/11, Great Minster House, 76 Marsham Street, London SW1P 4DR on or before 29 January 2003. An objection or representation MUST: (i) be received by the Secretary of State on or before 29 January 2003; (ii) be made in writing; (iii) state the grounds of objection or representation; (iv) indicate who is making the objection or representation; and (v) give an address to which correspondence relating to the objection or representation may be sent. The Secretary of State may make objections and other representations public and will copy them to the applicant for the Order.
