NOTICE OF DEMARCATED ZONES FOR THE CONTROL OF RALSTONIA SOLANACEARUM (SMITH) YABUUCHI ET AL
The presence of Ralstonia Solanacearum (Smith) Yabuuchi et al., the bacterium which causes potato brown rot, has been confirmed in samples of surface water taken pursuant to Articles 2 and 5 of Directive 98/57/EC of 20 July 1998 on the control of potato brown rot (“the Directive”). I, Brian Ellam, being an Inspector authorised by the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs for the purposes of the Plant Health (Great Britain) Order 1993 (SI 1993/1320) as amended (“the Order”), give notice that I have demarcated the following zones of contamination for the purposes of article 23A of the Order (article 23A was inserted by the Plant Health (Amendment) (England) Order 1999 (SI 1999/2126)): Internal Drainage Board Normal Channel 121, Bedfordshire, from the point at which the feeder ditch joins Internal Drainage Board Normal Channel 121 (at Grid Ref TL 180 419) to IDB Channel 121’s confluence with Bell Brook (at Grid Ref TL 185 453) including: (a) the feeder channel from the sluice gate set into the west bank of the River Ivel (at Grid Ref TL 183 419), to the point where it feeds into Internal Drainage Board Normal Channel 121 (at Grid Ref TL 182 424); and (b) the Shefford & District Angling Association fishing lake (at Grid Ref TL 183 417); Bell Brook, Bedfordshire, from the point where Internal Drainage Board Normal Channel 121 flows into it (Grid Ref TL 185 453) to its confluence with the RiverIvel (Grid Ref TL 185 457); Dan’s Ditch, Bedfordshire, from the syphon discharge on the west bank of the River Ivel into Dan’s Ditch (at Grid Ref TL 183 403) to the confluence of Dan’s Ditch with the River Ivel (at Grid Ref TL 183 414); Stanground Lode, Cambridgeshire, from the railway bridge between Yaxley and Peterborough (Grid Ref TL 192 948) to its confluence with the River Nene and Morton’s Leam (Grid Ref TL 201 977), including Crown Lakes (at Grid Refs TL 194 941 and TL 196 943); River Witham, Lincolnshire, from the A1434 bridge at Bracebridge (Grid Ref SK 966 682) to its confluence with The Haven at Boston (Grid Ref TF 327 428), including the Old River Witham around Branston Island (from Grid Ref TF 089 712 to Grid Ref TF 105 700); Fossdyke Navigation, Lincolnshire, entire length from Torksey Lock (Grid Ref SK 837 782) up to and including Brayford Pool (at Grid Ref SK 972 713) in Lincoln. On and after 31 March 2003, the provisions of paragraph 11 of Schedule 13A to the Order (Schedule 13A was also inserted by SI 1999/2126) shall apply in the above demarcated zones for the purpose of controlling the spread of potato brown rot. Also with effect on and after 31 March 2003, the areas of surface water which have been designated as contaminated, and to which the prohibition on irrigation and spraying of potato and tomato crops in paragraph 11(b)(i) to (iii) of Schedule 13A to the Order shall apply are the same as those demarcated above.
