NOTICE OF DEMARCATED ZONES FOR THE CONTROL OF RALSTONIA SOLANACEARUM (SMITH) YABUUCHI ET AL

The presence of Ralstonia solanacearum (Smith) Yabuuchi et al., the bacterium which causes potato brown rot, has been confirmed in samples of surface water taken pursuant to Articles 2 and 5 of Directive 98/57/EC of 20 July 1998 on the control of potato brown rot (“the Directive”). I, Brian Ellam, being an inspector authorised by the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs for the purposes of the Plant Health (Great Britain) Order 1993 (SI 1993/1320) as amended (“the Order”), give notice that I have demarcated the following zones of contamination for the purposes of article 23A of the Order (article 23A was inserted by the Plant Health (Amendment) (England) Order 1999 (SI 1999/2126)). Back River, Cambridgeshire—from its confluence with Stanground Lode at New Fletton (Grid Ref TL 200 978) to its confluence with the River Nene (Grid Ref TL 200 979); River Trent, Staffordshire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire—from the footbridge south of Mavesyn Ridware (Grid Ref SK 079 166) to its confluence with the River Humber (Grid Ref SE 865 235); Beeston Canal, Nottinghamshire—entire length from Riverside Road Lock (Grid Ref SK 536 353) to Meadow Lane Lock (Grid Ref SK 582 384); Chesterfield Canal, Nottinghamshire—from Basin Bridge (Grid Ref SK 784 947) to its confluence with the River Trent (Grid Ref SK 785 946); Erewash Canal, Nottinghamshire—from Steamboat Inn Lock (Grid Ref SK 490 313) to its confluence with the River Trent (Grid Ref SK 490 312); River Idle, Nottinghamshire—from North Carr Road pumping Station, West Stockwith (Grid Ref SK 790 947) to its confluence with the River Trent (Grid Ref SK 790 946); Trent and Mersey Canal, Cheshire, Staffordshire, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire—from Fradley Junction (Grid Ref SK 140 140) to its confluence with the River Trent (Grid Ref SK 458 307), and from Bridge Farm, Church Lawton (Grid Ref SJ 820 555) to its confluence with the Middlewich Branch of the Shropshire Union Canal (Grid Ref SJ 706 657). On and after 31 March 2004, the provisions of paragraph 11 of Schedule 13A to the Order (Schedule 13A was also inserted by SI 1999/2126) shall apply in the above demarcated zones for the purposes of controlling the spread of potato brown rot. Also with effect on and after the 31 March 2004, the areas of surface water which have been designated as contaminated, and to which the prohibition on irrigation and spraying of potato and tomato crops in paragraph 11(b)(i) to (iii) of Schedule 13A to the Order shall apply are the same as those demarcated above.
