PLANNING (LISTED BUILDINGS AND CONSERVATION AREAS) ACT 1990

ALTERATIONS TO HOLYHEAD BEACH CONSERVATION AREA

Notice is hereby given that the Isle of Anglesey County Council (“the Council”) of Council Offices, Llangefni, Anglesey LL77 7TW, has determined on 3 March 2005, that the undermentioned area of Holyhead Beach is of special architectural or historic interest, the character and appearance of which it is desirable to preserve or enhance. An amended map of the Holyhead Beach Conservation Area, designated under the provision of section 69 of the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990, may be inspected at the Planning Service offices, Llangefni during normal office hours, from Monday to Friday. The main effects of the designation of the Conservation Area are as follows: 1. Conservation Area Consent will be required for the demolition of all buildings, and the alteration of parts of buildings, walls and structures (other than excepted buildings) within this area. 2. Notice of all planning applications for development which, in the opinion of the Local Planning Authority, would affect the character and appearance of the Conservation Area must be given publicity that must be taken into account when determining the application. 3. Most trees within the Conservation Area are given special protection. It is an offence to cut down, lop, top, uproot, damage or wilfully destroy a tree, subject to certain exceptions, within the Conservation Area, without giving at least 6 weeks’ notice of intent to the Local Planning Authority. The amended boundary of the Conservation Area is as follows: From Salt Island Bridge the southern boundary of the conservation area runs westwards along the south side of Prince of Wales Road and the boundary wall to the edge of the greens along Beach Road to then follow the Breakwater Quarry Road until it reaches Soldier’s Point. The boundary then follows the natural coastline eastwards up to Trinity Yard from where it then runs along the promenade wall up to Mackenzie Landing. The final length sees it again follow the natural coastline eastwards back to Salt Island Bridge.
