THE PROPOSED FELIXSTOWE BRANCH LINE AND IPSWICH YARD IMPROVEMENT ORDER
NOTICE OF APPLICATION OF AN ORDER

Notice is hereby given that The Felixstowe Dock and Railway Company (“the Applicant”) of Tomline House, The Dock, Felixstowe, Suffolk IP11 3SY, has applied to the Secretary of State for Transport under section 6 of the Transport and Works Act 1992 for the above-mentioned Order under section 1 of that Act. The draft Order makes provision for: 1. The construction of a railway comprising a new marshalling yard near Ipswich Station by the reconfiguration of the existing railway between an improved junction east of London Road Bridge and a new junction west of the passenger railway platforms at Ipswich Station, the closure of railway access to Ipswich Lower Yard, the improvement of sidings and other infrastructure and the relocation of railway plant and equipment; 2. The construction of a new footbridge over the Ipswich to Lowestoft railway line west of the existing level crossing at Westerfield Road, Westerfield, and the conversion of the existing automatic half-barrier level crossing to a full barrier level crossing with closed circuit television; 3. A second railway line in parallel alignment with the southern side of the existing Felixstowe Branch railway line from a point west of mile post 78.5 on the Felixstowe Branch railway line to a point to the east of the railway platforms at Trimley Station; 4. The closure of certain level crossings on the existing Felixstowe Branch railway line, being Croft footcrossing, Grimston Lane footcrossing and Gun Lane level crossing; 5. The improvement of existing level crossings on the Felixstowe Branch railway line including their extension to accommodate a second railway line; 6. The creation of a new junction between Grimston Lane and Thorpe Lane, Trimley St Martin, south of the existing junction including the realignment of Grimston Lane on its approach to the new junction; 7. The compulsory acquisition of certain land for the purposes of the authorised works and the temporary use of certain other land for the purposes of the construction of the authorised works; 8. Powers to stop up and divert streets both permanently and temporarily in connection with the authorised works and to carry out works to streets; 9. The creation of criminal offences relating to trespass upon railway land or land in proximity to the railway, the disclosure of confidential information and the maintenance of the works approved by the Order; and 10. The variation and application of legislation relating, amongst other things, to railways, highways and town and country planning. Any person wishing to make an objection to, or other representations about, the draft Order or the proposals in the application should write to the Secretary of State for Transport, c/o TWA Orders Unit, Zone 9/09 Southside, 105 Victoria Street, London SW1E 6DT, on or before 3 February 2006, quoting Ref TWA/2/2/44. An objection or representation must: (i) be made in writing; (ii) state the grounds of the objection or representation; (iii) indicate who is making the objection or representation; and (iv) give an address to which correspondence relating to the objection or representation may be sent.
