CYCLE TRACKS ACT 1984
THE LONDON BOROUGH OF WANDSWORTH (TOOTING BEC COMMON) CYCLE TRACKS ORDER 2000

1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Secretary of State for Transport, having considered all information made available to him and all written representations made to him, has confirmed the above-mentioned Order (hereinafter referred to as “the Order”), made on 6th June 2000, without modification.
2. The effect of the Order is to designate the lengths of footpath specified in the Schedule to this Notice as cycle tracks.
3. The Secretary of State for Transport has concluded that—

(i) the paths on Tooting Bec Common are public footpaths;
(ii) the widened paths to which the Order relates are public footpaths for which the Council is the highway authority;
(iii) the Council, as the Order making authority, has carried out the legal requirements to define and create paths, over which the public have the right of way on foot, which can be converted into cycle tracks under the Cycle Tracks Act 1984;
(iv) he is satisfied that the design and layout of the cycle tracks is acceptable for their safe operation and use; and
(v) he is also satisfied that the balance of advantage clearly favours support for the cycle tracks as an important addition to the London Cycle Network.

4. The Order comes into effect on this day - Thursday 30th November 2006.
5. A copy of the confirmed Order and associated plan can be inspected during normal office hours on Mondays to Fridays inclusive in the Concourse at the Town Hall, Wandsworth High Street, London, SW18 2PU.
6. A copy of the Secretary of State’s letter, dated 27th October 2005, to the Council is available for inspection at the Government Office for London, 7th floor Riverwalk House, 157-161 Millbank, London SW1P 4RR (Ref: GGL 2/23/1).
7. Any person aggrieved by the confirmed Order may, within six weeks from the date of this Notice, challenge its validity by making application for the purpose to the High Court.

SCHEDULE
The footpaths designated as “segregated facility” cycle tracks by the confirmed Order are those lengths of footpaths which extend:-

(a) between Furzedown Road, at its junction with Furzedown Drive, and Tooting Bec Road at its junction with Dr Johnson Avenue;
(b) between Tooting Bec Road, at its junction with Dr Johnson Avenue, and Bedford Hill via the path known as “Chestnut Avenue”; and
(c) between Bedford Hill and Cavendish Road, at its junction with Emmanuel Road, via the bridges under the railway lines.

The approximate width of the cycle tracks is 1.5 metres throughout and is indicated by lines and markings on the paths.

( Note: the cycle tracks are not marked as segregated across junctions with other paths).
