ATTENTION: FORMER EMPLOYEES OF THE NATIONAL BUS COMPANIES

Are you:

a former employee of one of the National Bus companies; or

the widow, widower or next of kin of a former employee who has since died?

If you are, and you (or the deceased former employee) was also a member of one of the two bus company pension schemes—the National Bus Employees Superannuation Trust (“BEST”) or the National Bus Pension Fund (“NBPF”) we may be looking for you.

The trustees of BEST and NBPF have been distributing the surplus funds from BEST and NBPF since 2002 and are now coming to the end of the distribution. However, there is still a reserve fund which must be distributed to beneficiaries. If you satisfy the description above and you (or the deceased former employee) had pension benefits in BEST or NBPF at any time on or after 30 April 1986, you may be eligible to share in the remainder of the surplus distribution or the reserve distribution.

Eligible beneficiaries are former members of BEST or NBPF who had benefits in either scheme at any time on or after 30 April 1986 (including any who transferred their benefits out of BEST or NBPF on or after 30 April 1986) except for those who:

took a refund of their contributions from BEST or NBPF; and/or

died before 4 November 1986 (if BEST) or 1 November 1989 (if NBPF).

You may also be eligible if you are:

someone who receives a widow’s or widower’s pension following the death of a former member who died prior to 4 November 1988 (BEST) or 1 November 1989 (NBPF); or

the widow, widower or next of kin of a former member who died on or after 4 November 1988 (BEST) or 1 November 1989 (NBPF) and who would have been eligible if still alive; or

someone who received a child’s pension at any time after 1 April 2000 following the death of a former member of BEST or NBPF; or

the next of kin of an eligible widow, widower or child who has since died.

If you think you may be eligible to share in the surplus or the reserve fund and you have not yet been contacted by the trustee if BEST or NBPF or by Standard Life, you should telephone Standard Life immediately on 0845 60 60 049. This includes those that are:

former members of BEST or NBPF; or

phoning on behalf of a former member who has since died.

When you call please ensure that you have as much of the following information as possible. This should relate to the person who is, or was, the member of BEST or NBPF:

full name and any previous name(s);

current address and previous address(es) whilst a member of BEST or NBPF;

date of birth;

National Insurance number;

details of the bus companies that the member worked for and the dates of employment;

any reference number from any BEST or NBPF documents (this may start G41698 or G41699).

Alternatively, you can write to Standard Life with this information. Standard Life’s contact details are:

Annuity Pension Payments, National Bus Team, Standard Life, 1 Conference Square, Edinburgh EH3 8RA.

If you think you may be eligible to share in the surplus you must contact Standard Life before 31 May 2008. Otherwise the trustees will finalise the surplus and reserve distribution without taking account of you.

Note: You do not need to contact Standard Life if you have received correspondence about the surplus from Standard Life or from the BEST or NBPF trustee at any time since December 2001 or if you have been informed by Standard Life or the trustees that you are not eligible to share in the surplus.
