COAST PROTECTION ACT 1949
NOTICE OF PROPOSED COAST PROTECTION WORK
Suffolk Coastal District Council, acting in their capacity as coast protection authority, hereby give notice under section 5(1) of the above Act that they propose to carry out coast protection work at Central Felixstowe (Grid reference 631000E 234600N) subject to appropriate grant aid being available.
The work will consist of the removal of derelict groynes, their replacement with approximately 18 rock groynes and beach recharge. A rock armour revetment is proposed around Cobbold’s Point. The objective of the work is to reduce the coastal erosion and flood risk to the local community and restore amenity and tourism value for Central Felixstowe between the War Memorial and Jacob’s Ladder for the next 100 years. The work is planned to commence in 2011.
The estimated cost of the work is £7.5 million.

Any person may no later than 21 December 2009 serve a notice of objection to the proposal on the Secretary of State and on the Council.
Any such notice must contain a statement of the grounds of objection and must be delivered to or sent by post, fax or e-mail to the Secretary of State and to the Chief Executive of the Council.
