Notice of Proposed Coast Protection Works

The Hartlepool Borough Council, acting in their capacity as Coast Protection Authority, hereby give notice under section 5(1) of the above Act that they propose to carry out coast protection work as described herein at Coronation Drive / The Cliff, Seaton Carew, Hartlepool. The work will consist of the construction of:-

• 500m of Rock Armour Toe Revetment to the existing sea wall between the Staincliffe Hotel and Station Lane Access Ramp;

• a new 80m long concrete wave wall along the former North Shelter area with infill, paving and landscaping behind and a new set of beach access steps;

• replacement of the existing Beacon steps. The estimated cost of the work is £1.5 million.

Details of the work proposed can be inspected by appointment between 10.00am and 4.00pm Monday to Friday at Bryan Hanson House, Hartlepool by contacting (01429) 523207.Any person may no later than Friday, 29 October 2010 serve a notice of objection to the proposal on the Secretary of State and on the Council.

Any such notice must contain a statement of the grounds of objection and must be delivered to or sent by pre-paid post to the Secretary of State at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Flood Management, Nobel House, 17 Smith Square, London SW1P 3JR, and to the Chief Executive of the Council at Civic Centre, Victoria Road, Hartlepool TS24 8AY.
