SECTION 48, PLANNING ACT 2008
REGULATION 4, THE INFRASTRUCTURE PLANNING (APPLICATIONS: PRESCRIBED FORMS AND PROCEDURE) REGULATIONS 2009
NOTICE OF PROPOSED APPLICATION FOR A DEVELOPMENT CONSENT ORDER (DCO) TO CONSTRUCT AND OPERATE THE TRITON KNOLL OFFSHORE WIND FARM
- 1 Notice is hereby given that Triton Knoll Offshore Wind Farm Limited of Auckland House, Lydiard Fields, Great Western Way, Swindon, Wiltshire, SN5 8ZT intends to apply for a Development Consent Order (DCO) to the Infrastructure Planning Commission (“IPC”) under section 37 of the Planning Act 2008 (“the Act”) for the above-mentioned offshore wind farm (“the proposed application”). Triton Knoll Offshore Wind Farm Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of RWE Npower Renewables Limited, which is in turn owned by RWE Innogy. RWE Innogy is a European-wide renewable energy company owned by RWE AG.
- 2 The closest point to land of Triton Knoll Offshore Wind Farm is approximately 33 kilometres (km) (20.5 miles) off the coast of Lincolnshire, 46km (28.5 miles) off the coast of north Norfolk and 48km (29.8 miles) off the nearest point on the East Riding of Yorkshire Coast. The Triton Knoll Offshore Wind Farm project occupies an area of approximately 135km2 (52.1 square miles or 39.4 square nautical miles). The Offshore Wind Farm will comprise up to 333 wind turbines with a generating capacity of up to 1,200 megawatts (MW). Given that the generating capacity of the offshore wind farm is over 100MW, application for development consent is required to be made to the IPC under the provisions of the Act.
- 3 The proposed application to the IPC will seek a DCO for the construction and operation of the Triton Knoll Offshore Wind Farm comprising the following development:
• the construction of up to 333 offshore wind turbines, the number being dependent on the generating potential of each turbine;
• the construction of up to five offshore monitoring masts to collect information such as wind speeds and wind direction; and
• the construction of up to eight offshore electricity substations, and cables buried in the sea bed to link the wind turbines and the offshore substations.
- 4 The proposed application is “EIA development” for the purposes of The Infrastructure Planning (Environmental Impact Assessment) Regulations 2009. This means that the proposed works constitute development for which an Environmental Impact Assessment is required and the proposed application for a DCO will therefore be accompanied by an Environmental Statement (ES).
- 5 The documents, plans and maps showing the nature and location of the proposed offshore wind farm together with copies of the information so far compiled about the environmental impacts (“Preliminary Environmental Information” (PEI)), are available for viewing free of charge from 1st June 2011 until 12th July 2011 at the places and times set out below:
