The Rochester Bridge Trust (hereafter called ‘the Trust’) was founded in 1399 for the purpose of maintaining a road crossing of the River Medway at Rochester. It is a registered charity no. 207100. The Trust constructed, owns and maintains the current two road bridges and the service bridge over the River Medway at Rochester. Under Section 49 of the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 (hereafter called ‘the Act’), the Trust is the street authority and the street manager for the bridges and those parts of the approach roads in its ownership.

The Trust gives notice that on 23rd April 2013 it resolved to:

• 1 designate the two road bridges as ‘protected streets’ under and as defined by section 61 of the above Act; and
• 2 designate the section of the Rochester Esplanade, from its junction with A2 Corporation Street to a point 30 metres south of the projected line of the south west boundary wall of No.5 Esplanade, for which the Trust is the street authority, as a ‘street with special engineering difficulties’ under and as defined by section 63 of the above Act.

The Trust intends the designations above to take effect from 1st July 2013. Any person wishing to make an objection to the proposed designation shall do so in writing to The Bridge Clerk, The Rochester Bridge Trust, 5 Esplanade, Rochester, Kent ME1 1QE by 26th June 2013.
