NOTICE BY THE BANK OF ENGLAND CALLING IN BANKNOTES OF THE OLD-STYLE (SIR JOHN HOUBLON) £50 DENOMINATION

The Bank of England, in exercise of the powers conferred upon it by Section 1(5) of the Currency and Bank Notes Act 1954, hereby calls in on 30 April 2014, for payment of the face value thereof, all the notes of the Bank of England of the denomination of £50 which formed part of the series first in issue at the Bank on 20 April 1994 and which bore an image of Sir John Houblon on the reverse. By virtue of the said Section 1(5) the notes hereby called in will cease to be legal tender after 30 April 2014.
